Product Description
We have our “Hats of Scotland” caps finished in Britain by a 100 year old company, who we hope you feel as we do, does justice to the great legacy of Harris Tweed.Â
Harris Tweed Caps, with 100% wool tweed from the Hebrides Islands off the northern coast of Scotland, are made from arguably the best wool tweed in the world. It is of such high quality that the Scots had it protected from pretenders, imitators and counterfeiters in much the same manner as the French protect their wine with their “Appellation d’Origine” system.
The Harris Tweed fabric is protected by a 1993 Act of the British Parliament which itself superceded previous similar laws. Following is a quote from The Harris Tweed Authority: “Thus the definition of Harris Tweed became statutory and forever tied the cloth to the Islands: Harris Tweed means a tweed which has been hand woven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the islands of Harris, Lewis, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra and their several purtenances (The Outer Hebrides) and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.”
The richness of color and texture of Harris Tweed is legendary; it can not be and will not be surpassed. Yes, there are some Irish Herringbones that come close, but the Harris Houndtooth and Barleycorn weaves leave the rest far behind. Â
All of our Harris Tweed Caps bear the official Harris Tweed Orb label.
